Real Food Rising is Hiring!




Real Food Rising  is  a local non-profit focused on educating high school youth regarding sustainable urban agriculture in Salt Lake City. We are currently looking to hire three Crew Leaders, a farm apprentice, and a supervisor for our three farm stands. Job Title: Real Food Rising Crew Leader
Department: Nutrition Department                                                  
Reports to:  RFR Youth Engagement Specialist
FLSA Status: ?
Classification:  Part-time seasonal, 32 hours/week (9 weeks; June 13th-Aug 12th)
Pay Grade: $10.29/hour or VISTA AmeriCorps living stipend and educational award
Schedule: Mon: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Tues: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM (Hours vary; dependent on Hunger Relief Organization), Wed/Thurs: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Summary: The Crew Leader will work under the direction of the Youth Engagement Specialist. There are 3 Youth Crew Leader positions available for RFR’s Summer Youth Program.  Each Crew Leader leads a diverse group of 6-8 teenagers, working together with youth doing field work, providing mentorship and leading workshops and group activities throughout the summer.  Work happens on RFR’s 1.25 acre urban farm in Salt Lake, in soup kitchens and food pantries, on farm field trips and workshops.  Crew leaders are responsible for the safety and well-being of their crew in all settings.  RFR staff will provide a week long training before the program and will mentor Crew Leaders throughout the summer.

Classification: Part Time Seasonal, 20 hrs/week
Pay Grade: $10.29/hr
Schedule varies with the season: April/May: Tues-Sat, June-Aug: Mon-Fri, Sept/Oct: Tues-Sat


Summary: The Farm Apprentice will assist the RFR Farm Manager in field work on our 1.25 acre urban farm and lead youth and volunteers through farm tasks on a weekly basis.  They will be also participate in seasonal planning and strategy meetings and assist with harvest logs and record keeping. Tasks include: bed preparation, planting, weeding, pest control, irrigation management and compost building.  This position will also coordinate with the central kitchen team to distribute farm produce to food pantry sites, lead community volunteer work days and assist with youth program work days.  When needed (and if time allows), you may assist leading workshops and filling in at one of three weekly neighborhood farm stands (June-Oct).

Summary: The Farm Stand Specialist will assist with marketing and outreach for farm stands (april-may) and manage weekly farm stands (June-Oct), including set up/break down of farm stands, and selling produce at three farm stands each week (Neighborhood House, Glendale Community Learning Center, UNP Harland Center) and supervising youth interns.  Also includes assisting with harvesting produce, farm stand accounting and record keeping.  Work schedule will be based on community feedback for dates/times and partner sites, most likely in the afternoon/evenings.  As time allows, you will also assist with farm tasks and youth/volunteer days on the farm. Farm Tasks include: bed preparation, planting, weeding, pest control, irrigation management, compost building.
