Intern Needed

League of Women Voters of Utah Legislative Intern
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that neither supports nor opposes any political candidates. We encourage informed and active participation in government, working to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
The League is a multi­position based organization that advocates to protect and engage voters, reform our nation’s campaign finance system and defend the environment among many other positions as reached by the consensus of our members.

The League of Women Voters of Utah welcomes interns for the purpose of following the Utah State Legislative Session. The annual session runs from the the Monday after Martin Luther King Day for 45 days. Interns may be asked to follow bills pertaining to a particular subject, a specific piece of legislation or to serve as a direct assistant to a League board members (Depending on time availability and desired level of involvement.) Board member assistants are required to attend weekly Wednesday meetings at the Utah State Capitol.
EXAMPLES OF TASKS
  • ●  Provides written summaries of meetings of the legislative committees or personal meetings with legislators.
  • ●  Provide analysis of proposed legislation, its intended impact vs. perceived unintended consequences.
  • ●  Assist in writing of press releases, member action alerts, and/or legislator communications.
  • ●  Review lists of proposed legislation to identify bills of interest to the League of Women Voters based on League positions.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • ●  Interest in the League of Women Voter and history. Existing knowledge is a plus.
  • ●  Compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, verify, or process information or data.
  • ●  Review and/or edit documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • ●  Find, gather and collect information or data.
  • ●  Use automated software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel and Access).
  • ●  Proficient writing skills including correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • ●  Establish, organize and/or maintain files.
  • ●  Applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures.
  • ●  Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism
    via phone, email or face to face communication.
