Tree Utah Survey Days

TreeUtah needs volunteers to help us this August (8/3 and 8/10) with a unique scientific field survey.  We will be using scientific methods including GPS units for gathering field data about our planted trees and shrubs at the Redwood Nature Area (3000 South 1595 West (Lester Street), West Valley City, 84119).  We will then use this data for assessing the health and success of our planting efforts over the past few years at this site.  TreeUtah and our partner, Wild Utah Project, will train volunteers to use scientific methods for field gathering data. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in conservation, biology, botany, environmental studies, or ecological restoration.  This is also a unique opportunity to gain practical experience using GPS technology and forestry techniques for recording data about native plants.

At this point we are offering two different survey days in August.  You are welcome to attend one, or both days. we are capping the number of volunteers at 5 for each event.

1st Training and Survey Day: Saturday, August 3rd.
Duration: 8 AM to 11:30 AM
Location: Redwood Nature Area, 3000 South Lester Street (1595 West)
Description: TreeUtah and Wild Utah Project staff will demonstrate and explain the methods for gathering data on specific trees and shrubs, including identification, measuring height, and assessing health.  Volunteers will receive identification field guides for the trees, shrubs, and weeds that are commonly encountered in the area.  We will then evaluate several transects (randomly chosen areas to survey) and record data.

Please register to attend the 8/3 survey day here: http://conta.cc/15GX50c
