Good Shepherd Homecare + Hospice: Volunteer in a skilled nursing facility


What? The mission at Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice is to "provide exceptional Home Health Services through a team of Health Care Specialists to improve the quality of life for those in our care."

Volunteer will: Assist two patients in a skilled nursing facility. Volunteer will receive the instruction and training required to work in hospice. They will collaborate with the facility's social worker to provide needed services.

Specific tasks are defined by the patient in collaboration with the Good Shepherd nurse and the facility's Social Worker.

Activities may include accompanying patient out of doors when weather permits, reading aloud, assistance with meals, social interaction, or simply being a healing presence.

Requirements: Driver's License, background check, TB test, 12 hours of training/instruction, 2 hour commitment per week.

  2. As Volunteer Coordinator, I just visited a hospice patient that could use a volunteer to visit with and to help with some household cleaning. She has six cats and her adult daughter lives in the apartment. The apartment is in the vicinity of 3300 South and State Street.
