3 great new opportunities!



GOOD SHEPHERD HOMECARE AND HOSPICE: LDS Hospice Patient

What? Hospice patients are individuals with a terminal diagnosis who have chosen to forego further treatment. Most are elderly. Many are being cared for in their home by a spouse of other family member.

Volunteers will:

Assist husband as he cares for his wife who is terminally ill. Duties imay include light yard work. Couple is very appreciative of any assistance.


Project Requirements:

  • A compassionate heart
  • Driver's license
  • Background check
  • 12 hour orientation

    INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITEE AND YOUTH PROGRAM: Refugee Home Improvement Project

    What? Help refugees to feel welcome and at home in Salt Lake City! Community groups can get together to gather and deliver supplies to newly arrived refugees to help improve their living arrangements. When they arrive, they are provided with basic necessities, but very little in the way of comfort or decor.

    Volunteers will:

  • choose a chairperson for the project who will coordinate efforts with the International Rescue committee.
  • make a plan and schedule for the project (orientation, home visits to evaluate the needs of refugees, deliver donations)
  • Raise needed donation items such as good quality furniture, organizational units, decorations, normal household items.
  • Help refugees decorate and arrange apartments.

    Requirements:

  • Lifting and moving furniture
  • Driver's License

    FRIENDS FOR SIGHT - VISION SCREENINGS

    What? Friends for Sight is a local non-profit organization that provides free vision screenings and works with our community to promote eye health and safety.

    Volunteers will:

  • visit schools, senior centers, business and health fairs to screen children, teens, and adults.
  • partake in a comprehensive, hands-on training for visual acuity and glaucoma testing

    Requirements:

  • Driver's License
  • Great people/communication skills
  • Child friendly
  • Responsible and reliable

    Opportunities:

    Wednesday, July 21 @ 3:00: We will hold a volunteer training at our FFS office in downtown Salt Lake. This is a great opportunity to brush up on your skills in you need a refresher course, or to get one of your friends involved in our mission.
