Reach Out And Read Utah

What?
The mission of Reach Out And
Read (ROR)
is to make literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care, so that children grow up with books and a love of reading. Reach Out And Read builds upon the special relationship between pediatricians and parents of young children to encourage parents to read aloud to their children daily.

Volunteers will read stories to children while they wait for their appointments.

When?
Volunteer opportunities are available weekly.

Where?
There are multiple clinics on the west side of Salt Lake City.

CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Magna Kennecott Senior Center

What?
One to two students needed to teach basic (e-mail, Microsoft Word) and advanced (Microsoft Office and Beyond) computer classes to Seniors.

When?
Tuesdays: (1:00-2:00pm Basic) (2:00-3:00pm Advanced)
Fridays: (10:00-11:00am Basic) (11:00am-12:00pm Advanced)

Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice


What? The Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice needs one volunteer to make visits to an elderly gentleman who is bed bound. Ideally, the volunteer should have an interest in birds, since this gentleman loves birds and enjoys making carvings of them.

When?
On a weekly or monthly basis.

American Heart Association Luncheon: 5th Annual Go Red for Women

What?
Did you know that heart disease is the number one cause of death for women? This will be an informative luncheon.

Volunteers are needed to help with set up, registration, greeting guests, directing guests to specific areas, and cleaning up afterwards. Drinks and snacks will be provided along with the posibility of lunch if there are extras!

When?
Friday, April 30th
10: AM - 3:00 PM

Crossroads Urban Center

What?
Crossroads Urban Center helps to organize low income, disabled, and minority Utahns to be advocates on their own behalf in addressing essential issues affecting the quality of their lives. Crossroads also provides direct services to help meet basic survival needs.

Needs:
Small jars of peanut butter, any type of snack food (granola bars, raisins, chips, and single packages of oatmeal). Also needed are canned beans (any canned vegges will help!), Ramen Noodles, hotel sized shampp, lotion, and soap.

All donations will be very much appreciated!
